Celebrity Street Style

Happy weekend! :)

I've recently taken into an obession in checking the star style section of fashionspot.com. They have the most up to date looks of celebrities that we have both come to loath (Mischa) and love (Palermo). I also realised that while some celebrities can look perfect from head to toe on the red carpet, their candid/ street style usually fails to impress me. On the other hand, their are those who know how to perfectly balance their red carpet looks with their candid looks. Their effortless style to dressing out on the streets is what I call fashion.

Classic Diane Kruger style. She looked absolutely beautiful in Cannes. Diane wore a billowy lavender blouse tucked into a black and white mini skirt along with her favourite peep- toed Louboutins and Tod's tote. She can do no wrong :)

Marion Cottilard looked quintessentially chic in her airport ensemble. She paired her tiered skirt with a blue silk tank top, cropped blazer and a grey fedora. Epitome of Parisian chic! I cannot wait to watch Inception- she is gorgeous.
Sometimes its hard to believe that Olivia Palermo is only 24. She dresses beyond her age which isn't necessary a bad thing. Olivia is never boring and instead, is always experimenting from high street (TopShop) to high end clothing (Matthew Williamson). Here she is looking effortlessly stunning wearing a tiered camel coat, tulip skirt, striped t- shirt and to top it off- a gorgeous statement necklace. You don't see this everyday and she pulls it off so well.

You don't get away looking like that everyday. But Sienna Miller does. Skinny leather trousers, suede biker jacket and peep- toed boots is a combination that screams disaster. But Sienna Miller looks like the complete oppposite. She looked fierce (yes, Siriano) and totally effortless.

When I'm Rich and Famous II

For the past year, I've been rejoicing every Monday and Wednesday for netaporter and their amazing clothes. It's every Monday and Wednesday that I'd pretend-shop and pretty much have the time of my life pretending to be able to buy their amazing clothes.

But somehow, even with their ridiculous pri
ces, their clothes manage to get:
  • sold out
or
  • low stock
And it always really confuses me, who could possibly afford a £500 dress?
Anyway, despite their crazy prices, I think it's generally an amazing site. Go look!
Isn't such a pretty dress? I love the unique color!
(I don't really know what to say, it's a really really really pretty dress)

This is probably one of my favorites. I've actually seen it in a Miu Miu store when I was heading to a class. Can you imagine feeling tired and not bothered to do anything so you just grab this
dress and put it on....and suddenly looking amazingly pulled together.
I love yellow dresses. I think they're perfect for anything and everything....But this dress really takes the cake (besides, if Shakira wore it, it's probably pretty good :D)

Again, another favorite. It just looks so...perfect and...simple!
Sigh.
If only.

Auf Wiedersehen!

Happy Summer everyone! I know it's been quite a while, but I've been quite lazy lately.
Actually, no that's not true. I've gotten some work experience which is quite...interesting. Take yesterday for example, I finished my work on hand and didn't know what to do. So, obviously, being the brave and mature person I am (I'm hoping people would understand my sarcasm), I didn't say a word to anyone and took a German lesson online. Unfortunately, the only thing I can vaguely remember is Auf Wiedershen.
At least I know it, right?

Anyway, I've been doing a bit of thinking lately. I was reading through my msn list, when I came across a few names I couldn't remember at all. So with a bit of research (read facebook stalk), I somehow managed to realize that these people were actually my best friends in primary school! How could I forget something like that? It's quite ironic to be honest, we used to be best friends and hang out together in the summer, and now we don't even remember each other.
oh the hilarity.

Early in the Morning

Good morning! That is technically not correct because it is 11.22am at the moment....I have a bad habit of waking up pretty late. That must not continue.

Yesterday, I experienced one of my strangest days back home since I came back from Europe. I was out on the streets walking barefoot with a broken umbrella as it was pouring cats and dogs. What's worse, it was also thundering at the same time. Little did I know that once I came home and had switched on the t.v that they had hoisted a black rainstorm signal! Anyhow, that's how unpredictable weather is here during summer. It definitely reminded me of the song 'Rainiest Days of Summer' by Elizabeth & the Catapult.

Aurora Borealis. Isn't that such a pretty word? I have always wanted to see an aurora as there's something very magical and powerful about those lights. The closest I came to them? When I was in Norway and Finland. However, the only likelihood of witnessing them is during the winter nights when it is literally 24/7 darkness up in the Arctic circle and Lapland. Definitely one of the things to do before you die :)

So I've recently developed an obsession for Havaianas. Or just any comfortable and pretty looking flip flops. Ipanema's are also up there in my wishlist. There's just something so appealing to those flip flops right now. I figure this will be a good investment no? They certainly come with a price- around HKD$120 and up...Sooner or later, I will need a good pair of flip flops. They can also be my 'rain shoes'. I am not a trainers girl or converse. Bottom line, I don't own any shoes that covers my feet entirely. So surely getting a pair would be a wise idea...

Summer is the time when you have some good quality reading time. When will you have the oppurtunity doing this during school days when you're swamped with work and MORE unappealing reading? On my trip, I brought Interpreter of Maladies and The Reader. I finished the former but not the latter. I am definitely a picky reader. I also have a bad habit of skimming through bits that I find boring (I even did that in the Harry Potter novels). Right now, I am attemtping to read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. I've heard a lot about this novel and right now, I am genuinely enjoying it. I've read 100+ pages since I started last night which isn't bad at all! It is a novel about a woman's life in Afghanistan when the Taliban takes over and the daunting obstacles she overcomes. It's not your typical chick flick novel but it is a powerful and gripping tale that will surely move you.

A girl can dream....why not?

Summer. Who doesn't love that word?

The blazing sun, shiny happy people, rolling waves on the beach and the feeling of not caring about anything just puts a smile on everyone's faces.
For the record as shown in the above image, I don't know how to cycle (don't judge!) but my sister did french braid my hair and the closest I came to a beach this summer was in Brighton!

So today, Ellen came to my place and we decided to give this blog a little makeover! What do you think about the new look?

Inspired by Ellen's first post on 'pretty things', I have decided to do a little wishlist. Please note that the following items are from net-a-porter.com, a site with outrageously priced designer clothing that I can simply not afford! Afterall, this is just my 'wish' list :)
Isn't this Miu Miu bag adorable? I love messenger bags as they're both practical and fashion forward! The birds are an extra bonus.

Gorgeous pair of Valentino's. Lace is usually too tacky for my taste but these shoes look so feminine and perfectly designed that I had to include this on the list!
Everyone needs a pair of Jimmy Choo's. Love the nude, encrusted crystal design. Even Diane Kruger couldn't resist!

Valentino yet again. So many celebrities have worn this dress (Zoe Saldana, Olivia Palermo) but I don't blame them. It looks oriental inspired which I love. (I won't personally style this dress with black accessories and shoes though!)

Herve Leger and I don't get along too well as those who usually (*ahem* Kardashian sisters) end up looking extremely tacky. However, there are those who can perfectly execute these body- con dresses aka Diane and Zoe. I love this dress as its so girly and simple at the same time. Perfect summer dress!

Randomness, Girlcrushes, Summer and World Cup

The last time I've written a blog was back in the good old days when xanga was still around. I remember being completely obsessed in checking and updating it. It was the 'it' website just like how facebook is right now!
I guess I should clarify to everyone who I am. I'm Nicole and am 'partnering' with Ellen on this blog! Writing a first time entry here, I feel almost pressured to say something meaningful. I have an awful feeling I'll just resort to blabbering and end up wasting five minutes of your life :)
For those who still want to read on, I'm going to introduce a little bit about myself first! I am a hardcore fashion and celebrity gossip follower from sites like redcarpet to laineygossip.
Girlcrushes:

A- list superstarr! She is a complete stunner. This is can be none other then Angelina Jolie! Don't you just love the last photo of her in red at the Moscow premiere of 'Salt'? Although she isn't much of a fashionista, she manages to look gorgeous all the time with that timeless face of hers! She is the tabloids favourite so I admire how she manages to be so humble and poised all the time with her family of 6!

Fashion maven. Thats what I like to refer her to because she's flawless both on and off the red carpet! If you don't know already, she's Diane Kruger- a German actress who recently starred in Tarantino's 'Inglourious Bastards'. She makes any clothing like right on her and she always effortless when it comes to dressing. No wonder Karl Lagerfeld likes her!

Summer 2010 has proved to be a good one so far. I just came back from Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway), Estonia and England and it was amazing there! The weather is breathtaking and there's just something about travelling that makes everything better :)
P.s. Congrats to Spain once again for their victory at the World Cup! Although Brazil :( lost, I was rooting for Spain at the finals! Isn't Iker amazing as well?
