Conquering IB and a celebration

I find it unbelievable to this day to accept that fact that IB is finally over. I am an official IB graduate which makes me feel so proud. Logging onto the IB results page around 8 days ago was perhaps one of the most frightening moments I had to go through since completing my exams. All that effort accumulated from 2 years of hard work where we laboured through sweat and tears (such a drama queen but that is thanks to IB) will eventually come down to that moment. Anyhow, the first thing that popped into my mind while I stared frantically at the page was relief.

The frenzy that results evening had created was beyond unimaginable. Everyone was logging onto facebook, refreshing ever one minute with eyes fixated on the screen for any results news. This included happy status updates and switching education information to obviously the future university. Thanks to 21st century technology, good news has never spread faster than this before!

So far, summer has proved to be relaxing although at times, unproductive. Everytime I come across to someone hired to work or intern, I feel guilt. But at the same time I think to myself that this is my very last summer before I go off to university. This will probably be the last holiday where I can honestly put everything down, relax and not worry a single bit. (:

Spanish Fever

Sara Carbonero is a Spanish sports reporter who gained popularity last summer due to her infamous relationship with Spanish football captain, Iker Casillas. There was controversy when Spanish fell to Switzerland and rumour has it that Sara 'distracted' Iker, the goalkeeper. Whether that is true or not, she obviously has the last laugh because she's now treated like a celebrity. Whether you love or loath her, you have to admit she has the most coveted hair and striking eyes. Sara is also a dedicated Zara girl which means she's just like one of us! I take interest in her everyday street style as she mixes it up. She is also 100% committed to skyscraper heels/wedges as she is rarely seen in sandals and flats, got to love her for that!

A boho/hippie inspired look as she paired her grey blue shirt dress with a slouchy brown sling-bag.

The beginning of her affair with boots...she looked great wearing a classic trench coat, skinnie jeans and peep-toe laced up boots. I also envy her amazing bag collection, she has great taste in side-sling bags.

Sara mixes up textures wearing a wool-like blazer, basic white top and blue skinnies. Once again, she completed her look with thick heeled boots...they resemble clogs which is not a good look to me.

Perfect look for summer. She looked effortless wearing gladiator wedges, white crepe dress and a gorgeous knitted tote.

Adore this look as it is very easy to replicate. I love how she mixes her caramel coloured infinity scarf with a white and blue plaid shirt.

Black tank top and white skinnies can never look wrong together. Her hair is so enviable.

This is one of the rare moments where she's wearing flat boots. Unfortunately, as gorgeous as her dress is, I find the boots unflattering as they cut off at a strange place. The worn-out leather and style of boots are also out of date even though they somewhat match with her leather jacket.

She knows how to make a white t-shirt look interesting by accessorizing with beaded coloured necklaces.

Am obsessed with the colours of this outfit, browns and blues, warm colours look great together. She paired her flowy brown skirt with a simple spaghetti top, grey scarf and a gorgeous tote.

Last but not least, this ensemble is perfect for winter. She totally works the leggings look with boots and a tweed trench coat. The roses also look great with the outfit!

Sidewalk Fashion Show

The last time I did a post on celebrity street style was quite a while ago. I find it fascinating stalking celebrities on fashionspot because of their candid street style photos. I've said it before but a celebrity's look on the red carpet can dramatically differ when they're 'off-duty'. Personally, a celebrity called a 'fashion icon' should not be judged purely based on their red carpet looks but also their street style. Afterall, you can always just hire a stylist. Some celebrities claim they don't have stylists aka Blake Lively but the whole world knows she gets style advice from Karl Lagerfeld to Eric Damon, Gossip Girl stylist. The celebrities' whose style I'll be dissecting today is not based on whether I like them. They are simply outfits that are inspiring whether they've been styled or not. But honestly, to have even your daily outfits styled is just plain sad and lackluster.

Zoe Saldana knows how to work these flared high-waisted jeans. They can look tricky on people without the right proportions but Zoe has them. She paired her jeans with a billowy camel blouse with a matching coloured tote and sky high wedges. Effortless.

Her style is so fantastic that I decided to include another look. Did you realise that both of her photos look like shots from a magazine? She photographs like a model, jealous! This time Zoe opted for skinny jeans tucked into a loose white top that ever girl has to have during summer. Her boots are questionable because it is hot but she pulls them off. What really caught my eye in this outfit is the pop of colour from her red hot shoulder strap bag.

I love Keira Knightley. Sure her pouting can be annoying but she's a class act. She looked absolutely effortless walking around the streets of New York in a loose maxi-dress paired with sandals, sunnies and a shoulder strap black leather bag.

Clothes absolutely adore Diane Kruger. That's why Karl Lagerfeld is like a 'father' to her. Lucky girl! This photo isn't recent but she looked gorgeous and fashionable while cycling. One of my pet peeve is people pairing boots with shorts, skirts and dresses during summer. It is so redundant and shortens your legs...stumpy! Diane has amazing legs though so obviously this isn't a problem. She looked beautiful wearing a white tank top paired with short-shorts, biker boots and an eye-catching orange burnt vest cardigan. Her oversized tribal inspired gold earrings are amazing.

Unfortunately I can't express the same love for DK to Kate Bosworth as well. I admit that Kate has exceptional style and 99.9% looks flawless. Her problem however is that she is so dull...there is nothing interesting about her except from her clothes. True fact. Here she is looking chic and cool during the 2011 Coachella festival. Her Topshop American flag t-shirt is a cute tribute and I love how she matched it with fun accessories and lace-up booties. Okay, Kate is another person who can semi pull off boots with shorts look.

Olivia Palermo looked polished as she walked through the streets of New York...Upper East side perhaps? She proved to us that minimalism and simplicity is perhaps the way to go. She looked chic wearing a black sweather, olive coloured skinnies and grey ballet flats. Obviously her look wouldn't be complete without her cat-eye sunnies, trade-mark red nail polish and expensive gold accessories. Her tan coloured Mango (high street stuff for the win!) oversized tote matches perfectly with her look.

If Jessica Simpson wore this look, it would've been disastrous. However on Charlize Theron, it just looks too cool (lame but true!) Charlize has the right attitue to pull off denim on denim. The trick to this look? Always choose two different shades of denim. Here she chose a blue denim button-up top tucked into dark washed skinnies. She finished her look with white plimsolls, black tote, fedora and of course a cup of coffee.

Bring it on!

Summer 2011 is officially here. The blazing hot sun is finally out and it's that time of the year to break out in those oversized sunglasses. I love sunglasses because they make you look anonymous...if you feel and look like crap today, just throw on those sunglasses! This time last week, I was fast asleep after a tiring day of waking up at 5am to head to Singapore! I was in Singapore fo 5 days with 3 of my friends for our graduation trip. It felt slightly nervewrecking not knowing what may happen on the trip...disagreements and fallouts! Anyhow, I'm glad to say it was all in all a very good experience. We went all over Singapore from Sentosa to Little India to their famous zoo. Sure we all got a bit sunburned and sweaty but that's all part of travelling! I will shortly follow this post with one about Singapore.

Sometimes I wished Summer was more than just freedom and boredom. Summer is mostly time going by aimlessly. There is 0% stress, work and worries. What I really dislike about Summer is the laziness that is closely attached. For instance, I have spent the majority of this evening watching Glee episodes. 4 to be exact which is 180 minutes in total...3 hours in other words. Must stop, it's getting unhealthy.

An event to remember

As I'm writing, there is a fancy rooftop party happening in the building next to mine. I've been listening to these strangers laugh and talk along with the blaring music non-stop since 1pm. It's 8pm right now...it amazes me how they can party in pitch dark.

Anyways, I had my dinner dance two days ago and it was a really enjoyable event. To be honest, I was half dreading and anticipating the event because unpleasant things can occur spontaneously. There was also a lot of preparation from obviously the dress to very fine details such as your nails. It's tedious but important nonetheless. After all, this is our last final formal school event before we go off to university and never see each other again. This might sound silly but getting ready for the dinner dance almost felt like a wedding. And that whole dreading feeling right before it....quite similar to a bride's 'cold-feet' moment!

So after spending well over 2 hours on hair and make-up, we were finally ready to head over to our venue. Having been disappointed my the previous year's venue, we didn't set our hopes very high for this time round. However, it was complete 180 degree difference as the venue was gorgeous! The event hall was almost like a ballroom with the incredibly high ceiling, chandeliers and the mighty grand double doors. I felt like Belle from Beauty and the Beast in the scene where they had their first dance...!

After all stuffing our faces with food, warm-up dancing before the after party and tons of camwhoring, the event came to an end at 10:30pm.

The after party was an interesting experience on its own. I must say it was a comforting thought knowing the venue was completely booked for only people in our school. No strangers means the chances of sleazy encounters would've already been diminished...slightly though! Very peculiar things occurred including a girl who sounded like a siren...would not stop screaming her head off on the dance floor. I swear if a stranger saw her, they would've actually thought she was mentally challenged. Also, I know that when you're in a room with hundred so people dancing, you can get sweaty. But who knew you could get so sweaty to the point that it was almost as if you fell in a swimming pool and decided to head over to the dance floor without getting dried?! It was nasty. And lastly, I now appreciate the importance of forming a circle on the dance floor. It's a preventative and protective measure against unpleasant intruders.

And it's all over.

Life is good. Freedom is sweet!

15 exam papers totalling up to 22 hours have finally come to an end.
Summer has officially started...4 months of unproductiveness is about to begin.

The above photo reminds me of the Tivoli gardens in Denmark...the gorgeous fairytales were enchanting. Anyhow, I am proud to say I have finally overcome IB, the toughest challenge to have faced me so far. I felt very proud of myself the moment when the invigilator announced 'Times up. Pens down.' which marked the end of my Economics Paper 3 and also the whole of IB. Thank goodness!

Now I need to catch up with my beauty sleep (HA!)...I slept at 1.30am the day my exam ended and woke up at 10am the next morning. Not bad really!

Now that Summer has officially started...(its funny because I began blogging last summer so it's already been a year since I've joined!), I am going to make this one productve summer.

Summer list:
- Update my itunes, hunt for good music
- Shopping- revamping my closet
- Start looking for classic Disney princess DVDs (my mom threw out the old videotapes! boo.)
- Update my photoalbums and get them developed
- Have a blast in Singapore

Highs and Lows of Oscars 2011

Ahh...the 83rd Academy Awards...my first ever Oscar show that I actually sat through but I was really disappointed. The winners were well deserved overall in my opinion...for the main acting categories anyhow but can I say the same for the other categories? Anyway, seeing as I probably won't be watching the complete Oscar shows in the coming few years as I'm off to uni, I thought it'll be nice to give this show a little review.

The Lows

Better to get the bad things out of the way and end the post on a high note yeah?

I hate to say this but the hosts- Anne Hathaway and James Franco really disappointed. They were uninspiring, lackluster and dull. I've got to give it to Anne however for really trying. But there's a fine line between trying and really trying. It just got annoying towards the end of the show with her silly 'Woooos!' and her not very funny jokes. It was also made clear that she did not belong on stage. Hosting is defintely not her strengths...but she shouldn't be entirely blamed as she was just making up for the lack of enthusiam from James Franco. What on earth was he doing?! He looked bored, high and sleepy. We get that you've been to 'film school' but don't treat hosting as another job. At least put in a little enthusiasm as this is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity? Everyone now hates James Franco. It's official.

The pair started off well...unique opening monologue but it quickly started going downhill...shame.

Most of my disappointments were mainly in the hosts but Alan Menken losing out to Randy Newman in Best original song made me upset as well. I'll look at this argument at two perspectives though. To be fair, Newman has been nominated 20 times and only won twice (including 2011). Menken on the other hand has won 8/19 Oscars...the most anyone has everyone won for. I like to think that Oscar winners aren't decided politically but unfortunately, it is. I believe that Newman was awarded the Oscar because he has been snubbed way too many times. It is time he wins an award especially with the final chapter of the Toy Story series. The song wasn't memorable but I do think he should've won for 'You've got a friend in me' in 1996!

Oh Tangled...how I adore that film. I feel like I'm still high since watching that beautiful movie. I feel bad for Menken as well...the song was the highlight of the film. The floating lanterns scene was created so beautifully and captured the very essence of the film. I daresay that this is probably one of the most iconic Disney princess movie scenes. Nothing can beat the ballroom one in Beauty and the Beast duh... I felt like Tangled was snubbed for Best Animation as well. It was definitely a film that reminded of the 90's Disney Princesses but obviously with CGI.

The Highs

Mandy Moore and Zach Levi! I've never shown much interest in them until Tangled...obviously. Both of them have beautiful voices that went perfectly with Rapunzel and Flynn (!!). Mandy's performance was quite pitchy at the beginning to be honest but all was good the minute Zach stepped in. I wished this song was given more recognition...such a classic Disney Princess ballad. I dislike how songs are shortened to only 1.30...!

Inception!! I am so glad it won 4 of the awards it was nominated for...obviously all the technical categories. I wished it won Best Score though, one of Hans Zimmers finest creations! But all in all, it's nice to see this so well received film be appreciated by the Academy. Now pretty please can you nominate Christopher Nolan? That man is a genius! If you want the ratings to go back up (dropped a shocking 10% this year), you're going to have to nominate Nolan. In fact, the reason why the ratings dropped by 10% is probably because Nolan and Tangled were snubbed. Ha!

Another high would be the opening monologue. I love how the hosts bombarded each of the nominated movie scenes. It was hilarious and so darn silly at the same time. One of the very few moments that made me laugh. It was also a moment when I had the though 'This is going to be good!'. Yeah that thought quickly disappeared.

Another high? Harry Potter, TS3, TSN and Twilight autotuned songs. The best bit is that those its actually the dialogue in the movie! I couldn't believe I was watching the Oscars at first. The songs were surprisingly catchy but argghhh why Twilight?!

Witty banter between these two never gets old. Jude Law and RDJ undoubtedly have great chemistry. Probaby one of the most memorable presentations that evening...they were hilarious but not awkward (coughAnnecough). Yay for the Sherlock Holmes 2 this December!

Christian Bale has finally be recognized by the Academy. It's about time! I had a sinking feeling for one moment that CB would really lose to Geoffrey Rush. I would've cried, seriously. Thankfully, justice was on CB's side and all was good :) His speech was a bit crazy but heartwarming at the same time. I just hope he loses that moustache/beard thing going on. Not a good look.

Tangled :D

I just have to make a blog post about Tangled because I'm obsessed! I watched it yesterday and thought it was such a classic wonderfully made Disney film. Sure it's 3D and doesn't follow the traditional Grimm's brothers 'Rapunzel' story but who cares when this film was so entertaining? Disney films never fails to impress...especially princess ones...Princess & the Frog and now Tangled!

The characters in this film are so cleverly created and have so much personality. Rapunzel has amazing blonde hair (duh) but she's not an airhead. I wasn't too keen about her short brown hair in the end but I have to agree that it was cute and refreshing from the typically long-haired Princesses. Flynn Rider was not the typical Disney prince...in fact he was a thief and I personally think thats 10x cooler. I have to admit that I found his character extremely cute and enduring. Disney male characters are kind of bland sometimes but Flynn was charming, interesting and his voice is unbelievably amazing (Zach Levi!). Maximus the horse...arguably the highlight of the movie along with Pascal the chameleon were hilarious and lovable characters. Supporting non-speaking animals characters are a must in Disney princess movies :) (RIP Ray the firefly from Princess and the Frog).

Best scene of the film? Hands down the floating lantern scene...the song 'I See the Light' was beautifully performed as well.

Hollywood Star

She's back better than ever! The following 4 looks put together by the gorgeous German deserves A+++

Diane wows at the LA premiere of 'Unknown' wearing a short laced Dolce & Gabbana dress. This dress is borderline ice-skater looking but as always...Diane pulls it off. Diane wore this gorgeous embellished mini with Brian Atwood 'Maniac' nude pumps, slicked back chignon and simple studded earrngs.

LOVE this look. I don't see Diane wearing very structured and colourful block dresses very often so imagine my surprise to see this Prada Resort dress paired with equally stunning turquoise suede platforms. The cut-outs on the platforms definitely add a sparkle to a dress that otherwise would've been forgetful. She finished her chic look by short soft curls and a black watch. Perfect outfit for the Berlin Film Fesitval photocall for 'Unknown'.

Once upon a time, I watched a video where Diane was being interviewed after Chanel's Pre-fall collection. Diane said she loved this purple embellished dress so here it is...! I adore this arabian inspired cut and embellishment of this dress. It was definitely an unpredictable look from Diane. She completed her outfit by perfectly adding a pair of Gucci platforms and a half ponytail style (she needs to put her hair down more often...its gorgeous)!

Diane's looks are always very versatile and styled 10/10. She finished her round of stunning looks by donning a full length Grecian inspired Vionnet dress. This could've been a typical 'Helen of Troy' look but the rope neckline and chain detailing at the waist keeps things interesting. The book clutch by Chanel is a perfect touch to this look.

So there you have it...an array of fabulous looks from Diane. Congrats to her, Liam and January for 'Unknown' coming No. 1 at the box office! I need to watch that movie asap. Oh and can I say how relieved I was that this beat 'I am Number Four'?
